2018 AQA Diversity Speed-Mentoring Workshop: mentees wanted!

Share
We are pleased to announce that AQA will be hosting a Diversity Speed-Mentoring Workshop at the upcoming AAA annual meeting in San José on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. (location TBA).

The speed-mentoring format of the workshop will allow mentees to interact one-on-one with three potential mentors for 20 minutes each. Mentors and mentees will be paired by workshop organizers based on research interests and shared experiences. Following the conclusion of the workshop, mentees will select one mentor with whom to engage in an ongoing mentor-mentee relationship. Bag lunches will be provided for all workshop attendees.

The goals of the event are to support the professional growth and development of AQA members from diverse backgrounds, including teaching, research, and academic service, and to encourage and facilitate AQA members from diverse backgrounds (broadly construed) to serve in future leadership roles in the section and on the AQA executive board.

To these ends, we would like to invite advanced graduate students (ABD) and early-career professionals (postdocs and pre-tenure track faculty, including visiting assistant professors and PhD-bearing adjunct faculty) from diverse backgrounds who are interested in developing long-term, ongoing mentor-mentee relationships with current and former AQA board members and late career professionals to apply to participate in the workshop. Non-AQA members are also welcome; applicants of color are especially encouraged to apply.

To apply, please send an email with the following information to caseymiller@muhlenberg.edu by September 15, 2018:

• Name and email address
• Current affiliation
• Career stage (graduate student, postdoc, VAP, adjunct, etc.)
• Brief description of research and teaching interests and experiences
• A few sentences on why you are interested in the workshop and how your participation in the event would help support a more diverse group of junior scholars and future leaders in AQA.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the 2018 AQA Diversity Speed-Mentoring Workshop, please contact caseymiller@muhlenberg.edu or jdaperez@princeton.edu.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you in San José!
