The Gender Studies Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor with a record of transdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary research and teaching in the social sciences, beginning Fall 2018. The Gender Studies Program has offered courses in fulfillment of a Bachelor of Arts degree at John Jay College since 2009. Since 2016, the Program has been housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. The Gender Studies Program is supported by a dedicated faculty, staff, and administration who clearly identify the intersections of gender, sexuality, and race as essential to the task of educating for justice.
We are seeking a scholar whose research and teaching agendas are shaped by intersectional and interdisciplinary methodologies drawn from the social sciences, feminist and queer theories, and critical race theory. Especially encouraged to apply are candidates whose research and publications center on questions of justice, activism, and political engagement. Candidates are expected to maintain an active research and publication agenda, and bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching at a Hispanic-Serving Institution with over 13,000 undergraduates.
The successful candidate will have primary teaching responsibilities in the Gender Studies Program, where required courses in the major and minor include Theoretical and Historical Foundations; Feminist and Critical Methods; Gender and Justice; and a variety of electives across the disciplines. Please note that John Jay College CUNY observes a teaching load of seven courses per academic year.
Additional responsibilities of the position include advising students and serving on program, department, and college committees on a rotating basis. The successful candidate will also contribute to the continued growth of the Gender Studies Program through curricular and program development and student mentoring.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Women’s or Gender Studies; or, a Ph.D. in a related social science is required. An intersectional and interdisciplinary focus on gender, sexuality, and race, is required.

Salary commensurate with experience.
